Three for Thursday: It's Bluebonnet Time On MCOK!

Do not adjust your monitor ... this is not a flash forward to April ... and you're not having an out of body experience ... but feel free to be a little freaked by the sight of bluebonnets growing on my corner of Katy.  I've been watching the bluebonnet above all summer, expecting to see it go roots up any day.  They are not heat loving annuals by any means and seeing it thrive despite intense heat and a couple of bouts of torrential rain has been a little surreal.  I expected it to keel over when the heat returned after the rain from Hurricane Alex in July.  But it kept a-goin' (I'm hearing Henry Gibson ...).  Will it do so now that the rain from Hermine has passed and the temperature is headed back to the mid-90s?  Beats me!

It's not the only bluebonnet that is growing ... others germinated in July and August and are growing slowly but steadily, each in different parts of the garden.  And judging from the size of the one below, it just germinated in the last week!

I will be surprised if even the more mature plant blooms before winter arrives.  But, hey, I have bluebonnets growing in September ... so I could have bluebonnets blooming in October!

I hope you'll join me in posting Three for Thursday, if not this week, then next! Pick 3 pictures of plants from your garden ... tell us about 3 books you've read that you want to share ... rant about 3 things that bug the heck out of you ... show us 3 pieces of garden art or 3 photos of egregious crimes against gardening ... you choose what your three will be.  Just have fun, be creative and leave me a comment when your post is up!

I'd be happy to have Bluebonnets germinating at any time:)

Glad to hear you had some rain, but not the torrents from all the tropical storms brewing up right now. You don't have to show the empty space (last post), but I'm dying to know what a 'Tina Turner' Bauhinia looks like--I'm expecting something pretty flashy:)
Maybe that one is a mutant, which is a good thing if it is more heat-tolerant than the standard bluebonnet. Maybe you can propagate it and make millions.
My 3 for Thurs post is up. It's peppers.
Odd! But my mother-in-law sometimes had them come up off and on throughout the summer. I don't remember if these ever were the ones that bloomed in the spring. You'll have to let us know if they make it!

Maybe you've got heat tolerant Bluebonnets...something utterly new! And if they bloom in the Fall, you should save 1/2 the seed and let the other 1/2 start the cycle over again.

If you get Bluebonnets 3 Autumns in a row...then you need to get them into the market! What fun to find these.
And I'm not crazy. Encore Azaleas come to mind...someone had to notice their proclivity to bloom twice in a season.
Best Bluebonnet Wishes! David :-)
