Wow, no wonder you are stopping traffic at your corner! I am envious of such a fine stand of poppies. They had something similar at the Antique Rose Emporium one time when I visited. Yours are every bit as wonderful! :-) Frances
How gorgeous, Cindy! I still had some seeds that you gave us at the Chicago Spring Fling, and I scattered them, along with some others, in late February in my garden. I don't expect a display anything like yours, but I'd be happy if a few grew up.
Truly lovely! Somehow the little pot I have that will bloom someday doesn't seem so exciting now...

Gorgeous, Cindy! As you know, I also have a "stop sign bed" and do a similar planting with larkspur. Now you are making me want to change it to poppies! Maybe a mixture? Is that too much? Is there every too much in the garden? What do you use as your "second planting" after the fabulous poppies are done; I'm trying zinnia this year but would love more ideas. Thanks for the post of great pics.
I can see in my mind how more glorious they are than in the photos. I'm so glad I was able to see your garden in the spring. The toadflax that took my breath away... Now poppies, wow!

That is beautiful and I would probably have or cause a traffic accident if I came up on something like that. Near here is an exceptional garden which is the last property at that end of the street. At the very end the street takes a sharp turn to the left. One time I drove past and it was obvious what had happened. Someone was looking and kept going straight instead of seeing and taking the left turn... they went right through her white painted wooden-board fence!

I also did a slow drive-by and turn down your street. The poppies are lovely. Even my kids were impressed! I'm loving our Houston spring weather this year.
Hey Cindy, just seeing your Poppies would actually be reason enough for me to make a trip to Katy again. They are just gorgeous. I bet every avid gardener won't mind the stop at your corner and to get an extra moment to enjoy looking at those flowers. Paula Jo from Spring, TX

oh, baby, them are some poppies! Good job! I also have to laugh - when you see my new post, I'm posting about the poppies in my stop sign bed! And I put larkspur all around the sign rather than the poppies, though the effect is quite similar to yours. Great minds thinking alike? Or HG's running amok with beverage of choice?
Thank you all for your kind comments! The poppies do self-sow but I also throw seeds out every year. This means I have umpteen thousand seedlings ... so as you can read in my next post, I am NOT saving every single seedpod this year!
As for what comes next, zinnias are already up and several have buds. Bright Lights Cosmos, Gaillardias, Rudbeckias and Batface Cuphea are all getting going, too.
OK, I'm ready for some poppies. My new place is on a corner, and I have the perfect spot to put some seeds. I'm guessing you seed in the fall? What kind of poppies are they?
