A Mystery On My Corner of Katy

It was 2 or 3 weeks ago when I first noticed three of these plants growing in the bed along the trellis. I'd spread my homecooked compost in that area so I knew they were most likely something in the cucurbit family. But just which of its many members is this? Lovable Uncle Zucchini, crazy Aunt Pattypan, mellow cousin Yellow Crookneck or even the Big Daddy of them all, Watermelon? Can someone identify this character? (Pay no attention to those pinecones under the leaves ... they're there to keep Night the Marauder from feline misbehavior in the area.)

Cindy, haven't a clue, but you should in just a day or 2. How fun to have a mystery!
I don't think it's Uncle Zucchini. I looked at the leaves of mine, and they aren't as lobed.

I'd swear it was a watermelon in the first picture, but the blooms in the second picture don't look right to me. Time will tell, if these blooms were pollinated, some kind of melon-type fruit should form. Then you'll know!

Don't look like the leaves on my "Crazy Aunt Pattypan" and watermelon was my first guess, too - maybe the bees have been busy and there'll be a new cucubit called Sweet Cindy?

Now wondering why Crazy Aunt Pattypan is the only squash we've had any success with here!

I thought at first this might be a zucchini, but the leaves don't look quite like mine. It will be fun to see what develops! I often have the strangest things growing from my compost, too:)

Looks like a watermelon to me. Watch for it to spread like crazy!

I think it's probably a cross-breed. :-) It doesn't look like any pure squash or melon I've seen.
